Short Bio

 

An artist with multifaceted talent, Chiara Caselli is an actress, director and photographer.

 

Her career as a film actress began at 19 and she soon became one of the most versatile and international actresses of her generation. She has acted, among others, for Michelangelo Antonioni, Liliana Cavani, Marco Tullio Giordana, Gus Van Sant, the Taviani brothers, Dario Argento, Mia Hansen-Løve, Pupi Avati.

 

She made her debut as a director in 2000 with the short film Per Sempre, presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival and winner of the Nastro d'Argento. In 2016 her short film Molly Bloom, from Ulysses by James Joyce - the last stage of her work on Joyce's text which began in 2011with the adaptation and continued with the show for the Spoleto Festival - is presented at Venice Film Festival and won the Nastri d'Argento Special Award in 2017.

 

She started taking photographs at the age of 14 with the Olympus OM-1 given to her by her father. She have been exhibiting since 2008.

In 2011 she is she at the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale and at the International Photography Festival of Rome. In May 2014 a solo exhibition in Tokyo; in 2018 she participates in Moscow Photo Biennale, the only female photographer next to Mimmo Jodice and Berengo Gardin. In the summer 2023 her latest exhibition, Interiors, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi.
